About Us | Bookie'sHomewood will soon have a book store in the community. Keith Lewis, owner of Bookie's New And Used Books in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood, confirmed this week that he has signed a lease on a downtown Homewood space that will soon become Bookie's Homewood. It's a 2, square-foot space that Lewis says has "a lot of potential. Plans are for a children's section to be separated by a door from the room with regular books, which will be on display closest to the street. Lewis is a resident of Beverly, but this won't be his first connection in Homewood. He lived here as a child for two years, having attended James Hart School for eighth grade and Homewood-Flossmoor High School for his freshman year of high school.

Western Ave. Owner Keith Lewis expects the 2,square-foot shop to open around June 7 and plans to convert his existing store at W. I need more space to be able to display my books and merchandise," Lewis said Monday. Lewis said the actual retail space in his new store will be closer to 2, square feet, which is huge compared to his current square-foot store that relies on narrow aisles and books stacked almost to the ceiling. The new location will have more of an open and airy feel, with areas for children's story time and comfy chairs for adults to flip through the pages of books they are considering buying. He seemed equally excited to reinvent his current store, which he's calling Bookie's Annex. He envisions it also being used for children's book fairs, game nights, community meetings and other events.
When Homewood residents talk about what businesses they would like to see in town, one idea comes up consistently: a book store. It looks like that wish is about to come true.
