The Lightning Thief Summary
I can now say I have read the first book and shall be continuing the series during the summer. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. Now I spend my time fighting with swords, battling monsters with my friends and generally trying to stay alive. Basically as suggested by the title this is the book where poor normal Percy is accused by Zeus God of the Sky of stealing his lightning bolt. This book for me was awesome! Jam-packed with bits of history, intertextual references to a lot of famous USA landmarks making it easy to imagine battles and the light-hearted humour between Percy, Grover and Annabeth.

Meet Percy Jackson. He is twelve years old, and he decides to tell us the story of his past year. On the first day of summer, just after his sixth-grade year, Percy discovers that something is wrong with him. Or rather, something is right with him. He learns that he is a half-blood: half-human, half-god. He is taken to Camp Half-Blood in New York, a camp for kids just like him that is safe from monsters that like to attack half-bloods.
For reasons unknown, he often finds himself in unique situations that get him kicked out of school. At the same time Percy defends his friend, the fountain that they were next to grabs Nancy. However, Nancy believed that she was pushed into the fountain, and lies about the incident to Mrs. Dodds , Percy's pre-algebra teacher. Dodds separates Percy from the rest of the class before she transforms into one of the Furies from Greek mythology and attacks him. Brunner, Percy's Latin teacher, tosses a pen to Percy, and when uncapped, it transforms into a sword.
